2Do some research before you decide...Sep 05, 2010
This is an 'older' system version from Leapfrog.

Why buy these,... when you can get LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game System (Green) or the LeapFrog Leapster 2 Learning Game System - Green. The Leapster 2 is a more recent version of the system displayed here. While the Leapster Explorer is the MOST recent system from LeapFrog. The Leapster and the Explorer use diferent type cartridges. Check them out before you decide.

My 5 year old is enjoying her Leapster. It has definitely kept her busy and quiet! It has been dropped a few time and is working great.

5Super electronic option for the age group its intended forJul 18, 2010
I bought the pink and green Leapsters for my son and daughter when they were four and five. They got a few great years of enjoying the game system before moving on to a different option for older children. It was a great size and great for long trips in the car. The Leapster case should be more available because it was so handy in helping to keep games with the Leapster and making it all easy to tote along with the child.

My children were able to enjoy several games because I ordered them used online which helped to make the option more affordable. If you are buying each game separately I think it just costs far too much when you add up all of the options together.

At first I was worried that the stylus would break off since the children would sometimes carry it by the stylus. However, through all the abuse the styles remained in tact. After a few years of plenty of use the green one eventually stopped reading cartridges well and the pink one continued working. I doubt that that has anything to do with color but more because of who had the system to play with. :)

One thing I wish I would have done differently is to have purchased and AC Adapter to go with it. I thought I could use rechargeable batteries with it and you can't. So, added to the cost of the system, the case and the games was a whole lot of AA batteries. Four at a time. Ikes! The charger would have been a smart move.

Overall, I am very pleased with the selection of games and entertainment and am glad my children had this option especially on a few long road trips we took.

1Leapster teaches 4 year old "buyer beware"Jun 15, 2010
My daughter received the Pink Leapster as a christmas gift (in March by the time we got together with our friends) and less than three months later, it is a piece of useless junk. It won't even turn on.
I called customer service and after waiting on hold for over 30 minutes, listening to their instructions on what to do if the leapster will not turn on (clearly this is a widespread problem), they told me that they will not do anything about it even though it is less than 6 months old and has only been played with a handful of times. They don't even have a "fix" for it. So if you have a problem outside of the 90 days, you are out of luck from Leap Frog, they won't support it or replace it.
I will NOT buy another product from this company, simply because they do not stand behind their products or provide good customer service. I will also advise others to go elsewhere.
One thing is clear, the Leapster is, in fact, a learning tool, my daughter has learned the meaning of "buyer beware" but also that "there are other toys in the toy aisle". Unfortunately, the lessons of real life and big business are a bit complex for a 4 year old!

5Great for 3-6 year oldsMay 31, 2010
Bought this for my daughter when she was 4. And she is almost 6 & still plays with it. The leapster has been fun & educational at the same time. Great system if you are not ready to splurge on the DS systems just yet.
